My Name Is Stacie, And I Was Honored at the 2021 Women of Color STEM Conference

The Women of Color STEM Conference for 2021 has come to a close, and what an incredible experience it was. This year held special significance for me as I was among the honorees recognized for achievements in technology.

A Moment of Recognition

Being named a Technology Rising Star was humbling enough, but the experience of being one of over 650 remarkable women receiving Outstanding Achievement Awards this year really put things in perspective. Each honoree’s story represented a unique journey in STEM, and I was honored to be counted among them.

The Power of Reflection

The award nomination process itself turned out to be unexpectedly meaningful. When my leader submitted the nomination letter, their words of recognition and support touched me deeply. It was a powerful reminder of the impact we can have on others, often without realizing it.

Additionally, having to write my bio and outline my journey forced me to do something we rarely make time for – stopping to appreciate our own growth and achievements. As tech professionals, we’re often so focused on the next challenge that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come.

Virtual but Valuable

While attending virtually meant fewer networking opportunities, the conference still delivered exceptional value through its sessions and presentations. I walked away with new insights and inspiration that I’m excited to apply in my role.

Looking Forward

One of the most exciting announcements from the conference was the launch of their year-round platform. This “365” approach means the learning and connection opportunities won’t be limited to just the annual event.

Key Takeaways

  1. Recognition matters – both giving and receiving it
  2. Taking time to reflect on our journey is invaluable
  3. Virtual conferences can still provide meaningful learning experiences
  4. The STEM community for women of color continues to grow and evolve

The Bigger Picture

Being recognized at this conference wasn’t just about personal achievement – it’s about representation and possibility. Every woman honored this year helps show the next generation what’s possible in STEM careers.
